The homes are of simple Victorian design with generous front porches, steep roof pitches and horizontal siding. The break up of the building forms emphasizes the vertical elements typical of Victorian architecture. This project is unique for clustered housing in that the homebuyers are acting as their own developers. By investing our own time and money, we hope to keep costs down and more affordable to working families. This community will provide a wide range of unit sizes from 506 sf carriage houses and two bedroom flats to four-bedroom townhomes and single-family lots. This spread encourages a diversity of incomes and household types typically found only in older neighborhoods. With over 50% of the homes proposed to be small one- and two-bedroom homes, this project will fill a much needed void in the local housing market which is largely comprised of single-family homes. We have worked hard to create a design that fits well with the surrounding neighborhood and is still affordable to the working families of the area. We believe that this development has many benefits for Nevada City, not the least of which is creating a model of energy efficient, sustainable housing. Nevada City Cohousing Home Costs1
